Lately, I’ve been stuck in a different kind of maze.
Hiring.
But let me back up. Here’s the full story.
The Hedge Maze
I walked through the hedge maze at VanDusen Gardens in Vancouver with my parents.
I thought I’d finish in 5 minutes. But I got lost.
I turned left. Dead end.
I turned right. Dead end.
I walked straight. Same bush, again.
It all felt very familiar.
Hiring Maze
That’s when it hit me. I’ve been here before.
Office managers flake. Our technicians come and go.
I found two decent ones this month. Still not pleased.
Feels like I’m going in circles.
But that’s the game.
Learning Experience
Here’s the truth.
You don’t win by avoiding dead ends. You win by learning from them.
Every bad hire teaches you what good looks like.
Every misstep sharpens the next move.
Every wrong person clears the path for the right one.
Life is a maze. Business too.
Keep walking. Keep iterating.
Eventually, the right path clicks.
And when it does?
You don’t just escape the maze. You own the map.
From there, you realize that life is a maze, not a ladder.
